This section is a true “about us” section, at the expense of seeming narcissistic. Many of our customers have become our family friends and check this section at times. So, I try to update it for them every now and then.
At the end of the day, we are people from humble beginning who have happened to be lucky enough to have met lots of very nice people, many via SORAsound.
My wife, Nami, graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Art – Department of Vocal Music, Japan’s premier arts and music school. Although classically trained as a soprano, Nami’s singing portfolio ranges from very soft angelic to opera, jazz, rock and pure nuts.
In Denmark, her band OPERA followed the queen’s speech during the Arhis Festival 1995. In 2002, she had a solo recital at Japan’s esteemed Suntory Hall.

I was born on Jan. 4, 1960 in a small town in Iran. Growing up, I always felt different. In a good way, of course.
At age 13, my parents sent me to a boarding school in Tehran, called Alborz. Like all “Alborzis,” I remain proud of my education then. Needless to say, I will never send SORA to a boarding school, even if he continues not to kiss and hug me as much as I want him to.
When I finished my high school at age 17, I was awarded a full scholarship to study international relations at L’institut universitaire de hautes etudes internationales in Geneva, Switzerland.
On my flight to Geneva, I knew I was leaving Iran for good ….
So what happens when you send a young, (girl) deprived Iranian boy from humble beginnings to Geneva? He goes boogying. I discovered a great disco, called club 58 and became their youngest honorary member. Serious. I normally was one of the first to arrive there on Friday and Saturday nights, in my pretty bell bottom suit pants. I danced all night to many songs, of course including the Village People and soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever. I was always a few steps behind the rhythm. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun. Think of it as your vta being off a bit; you could still enjoy your music.
Two years later, in 1979, I left Geneva to go to Denton, Texas (University of North Texas). Not exactly the cultural mecca of America, and certainly not the best place for an Iranian champ to live then. But Denton had a great subculture and a great music school. After a while, I fit right in.
I did most my schooling in America and have the following degrees:
- M.B.A. (emphasis on organizations and strategy)
- M.A. international management
- M.S. computer science (emphasis artificial intelligence)
- B.S. computer science
- B.A. French
Since childhood, I have loved cultures and enjoyed people from the yonder, accents and their food. I speak a few languages and have lived and/or worked in over 20 countries. While living in Tokyo, I became seriously involved in analog audio as a hobbyist.
I started SORAsound in may 2003 based on a request from Hisayoshi Nakatsuka of ZYX, Inc. to distribute his ZYX cartridges in North America. SORAsound gave me the opportunity to put in practice some of my management consulting experience. But more importantly, SORAsound addressed two significant needs in my life: the love of meeting new and interesting people like you; and sharing the joys life can bring us, including music.
We love our customers. SORAsound prides itself on have the BEST customer service. Many of our customers have become friends. This is the main reason we enjoy SORAsound so much. To avoid misunderstandings, please be kind and read our policy as outlined below. Any transaction with SORAsound assumes you have read and accepted the following:
- EVERYTHING HERE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. This includes prices, specifications, policies, etc. Please do not assume anything. Ask questions before you make a purchase.
- Generous upgrade allowance.
- No refunds, returns or exchanges for any reason.
- Your warranty is the direct manufacturer’s warranty (i.e. not SORAsound) and not tranferable. In case of a problem, it is the manufacturer (not SORAsound) who decides whether the issue in question is covered under warranty.
- Once an item reaches you, it is covered by the above warranty, if applicable.
- SORAsound bears no responsibility for the use or misuse of the items purchased.
- In some markets the product(s) we distribute are represented by a dealer. if so, we will be happy to introduce you to them for a demonstration of our product(s) and best service to you.
- SORAsound reserves the right to refuse the business to anyone or any entity as it sees appropriate.
Bad boys and girls. Please do us a favor and do not buy from us…better yet, please do not contact us to begin with. Just do not deal with us and we will love you for that!
In all our years we have had less than a handful of customers we prefer not to do business with. We are not shy to tell those people not to contact us for future business. We want to focus on our time and energy on our customers, the good boys and girls we love.
No tire kickers; those who try to put a couple of dealers/associates pitting against each other for $50; people who are just not happy with their lives, and make us miserable too; people who try to find fault with everything including the audio industry and try to tell us how to run our business; the ones whose offers I accepted but said they need to talk to their wives and get back (thanks for not getting back!), the one who broke his cartridge, blamed the cartridge, but told his friend he broke the cartridge himself, etc.
No “cyber bullies” and “loud mouth bribing.” Some try to “bribe” us by either threatening to post or posting negative things on the web regarding our products or service. Well, I got to tell you – my father was a judge and aside from integrity and love in my family, I learned not to ever let be bribed. Example, a customer who had contacted us even in 2008 bargaining hard to buy a ZYX,; came back a couple of years after that with more hard bargaining. Finally bought a cartridge somewhere else which is absolutely fine with me. After about 18 months, he contacted me to upgrade. I said I’d only upgrade for those who purchased from me. Six months after that (about two years from the purchase of the cartridge from someone else) came back saying he had problems with his cartridge since the beginning and apparently wanted a repair under warranty. I told him of course I’d be happy to send his cartridge to ZYX to be checked, cleaned, and repaired if necessary but there is a cost associated with it. Also discussed an upgrade which I agreed with. He changed his mind and has been blabbering on the webs talking about his disappointment with ZYX. Yes, this may hurt our business with some who do not take the time to know what’s behind your words, but submitting to such individuals would hurt our principles and simply is not just. We deal with anyone including this person fairly when they start acting professionally and make a genuine effort in being in the good boys and girls category.
Good boys and girls. This is really ALL our customers. As cliche as it may sound, we love our business because of you. You make it fun for us. We love you and do our best to make sure you are happy. Many of our customers have become good friends who visit us or call just to say Hi. You are always welcome to our home. Please do not feel you have to buy anything if you contact us. Just call. It’s always a pleasure hearing from you.

10Audio.com. This is Jerry Seigel’s website. Jerry is a fair reviewer and has great ears. Above all, he is a very good person. Jerry buys most, if not all his review equipment.
