ZYX Omega G: Why $2,400? Why $8,300? Have it FREE!

North American retail price for ZYX Omega G: now $6,500 but used to be $8,300 until around the end of Feb. 2010.

A few months ago, I wrote How Can They Justify the Difference Between $2,695 and $8,300? Guess what, euro is weaker now. So, the $2,695 is $2,400 today! And this is from a distributor who actually does have a dealer network. Look at all the people in the chain who make (and should make) a profit: ZYX, its suppliers, its global agent, Sibatech, its distributor, and its dealer.

Then why was ZYX Omega G $8,300 in North America until end of Feb. 2010 (now $6,500), and still appears to be $8,300 in some other countries? The same supply chain as above is in action. The same number of people who need to (and absolutely should) make a profit. So why is is that in a European country with a high cost of living and high taxes, ZYX Omega is sold $2,400 but in some places $6,500 or $8,300? How can they justify the difference between $2,400 and $8,300?

Short while ago a demo ZYX Omega S sold on an auction on Audiogon for $2,430. As of this date there have been multiple ads for ZYX cartridges by audiophiles (? or sellers possibly linked to retailers, disguised as regular audiophiles?) selling ZYX cartridges including Omega at hefty “discounts.” For the last few weeks there was a “lightly used” ZYX Omega copper on Audiogon at $3,900. Today there is an ad on audiogon for a new ZYX Omega Gold at $3,200. I am sure we will be seeing more ads and lower prices, for ZYX Omega and other ZYX cartridges.
